Since we, as workers, spend a significant portion of our time and our lives at our place of work, it’s comforting knowing that our respective companies will always address our needs–our rights. Employment laws were enacted to protect employees from the possibility of mistreatment from employers. Without the presence of employment laws, workers would be left vulnerable to various inequalities–i.e., discrimination, unequal pay, unsafe work environment, etc. On local, state, and federal levels, the significance of Employment Law is immense.
Throughout the US, countless companies and their employees operate under the master-servant relationship. The master-servant relationship is a legal guideline that declares the employer’s responsibility for the actions of their employees. In this situation, the master is the employer, while the employee is the servant. These laws are designed to eliminate stressful conflicts that could reduce company productivity and increase disruption throughout the workplace. Most importantly, the concept of Employment Law is one that dictates how employees and employers should interact with each other.

These laws truly reflect the values we hold as a society–the value of anti-discrimination, the value of equality, and more. Not only do employment laws hold a high level of significance throughout companies, but it’s also essential to the health of our economy. These laws maintain employer rights to company profit while ensuring the right to an employee’s compensation–compensation that’s appropriate for saving, investing, and covering living costs. With maintained employment laws, businesses will continue towards an upward trend while employees can participate in our society as consumers. Together, economic growth can be achieved.
